From what I understand its not just an application server, but a whole
content management system and methodology.

So is
    Cold Fusion && (Spectra || CMS300 || Shado) = ZOPE
More like:
ColdFusion && (FarCry || Shado) =>
Python && (ZOPE) =>
PHP && (Nuke)

The biggest advantage you have with a CF based solution over ZOPE is CF itself.

PS. ZOPE was a proprietry Python based CMS -- the company that owned it basically made everything open source -- manages the underlying code base and future development and is still the biggest services provider for Zope solutions. An interesting business model.

PSS. Ektron does not really have a sophisticated CMS application framework worth speaking of. And anything running on less than CFMX you should move away from ie. Spectra
