This could be a really mongrel of a thing to work out.

Firstly - you could consider deleting the file using CFEXECUTE instead of CFFILE.  Have you checked that the delete works from the command prompt?

An issue to look at would be the CaSe of the fil (seeing the storage system is Unix then case IS going to be significant.

UNC paths should not make a difference (I dont think) but you could see if your problems go away if you map drives (but then you may have to wear logging on to the server to get the drive mappings happening).

Just a few things to consider.
