Getting even stranger.

In the same block of code, I had entered

<A HREF=SameSurname.cfm?Sur=#Sur#>
#(SameSur.RecordCount -1)# other customer(s) named #Sur#
</A>

I changed it to the more regular

<CFSET NumOtherSurs = SameSur.RecordCount - 1>

<A HREF=SameSurname.cfm?Sur=#Sur#>
#NumOtherSurs# other customer(s) named #Sur#
</A>

This clears the error.

Any ideas what went on here ?
