I can give you further recommendations against why not to use it ... 1. Performance, in general terms the JRun web server has not been optimised for production use, try your own performance tests, you will see what I mean
2. Security, Macromedia will probably not respond in a timely manner to potential security issues that may be discovered in the web server, not because they don't care but because they quite clearly state its intended use is not for production 3. Flexibility, the Jrun web server lacks many features of the more popular web servers out there, these relate to security, performance tuning, muti-domain hosting, logging to name a few areas ... all things which Apache and IIS do much better ... I think the questions I would ask you is why would you use the embedded web server in JRun or CFMX over Apache/IIS particularly when you take into account the lack of investment required in both options ... and the potential risks of using the embedded web server? thanks Mark ----- Original Message ----- From: "Beattie, Barry" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "CFAussie Mailing List" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Thursday, March 27, 2003 12:53 PM Subject: [cfaussie] Re: Coldfusion MX Platform related queries > Paul Haddon said (previously) > > "There are people who are using it quite successfully I believe. > I was trying to point out that there are better alternatives to > IIS out there" > > can anyone here vouch for the JRun webserver (esp on a windows box) in a > production environment? their own experiances? > > cheers > barry.b > > > > -----Original Message----- > From: Hickman, Matt [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Sent: Thursday, 27 March 2003 10:53 AM > To: CFAussie Mailing List > Subject: [cfaussie] Re: Coldfusion MX Platform related queries > > > There's one recommendation im sure of - is to NOT use the built in CFMX web > server in a production environment. > > > > -----Original Message----- > From: Knott, Brian [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Sent: Thursday, 27 March 2003 11:50 AM > To: CFAussie Mailing List > Subject: [cfaussie] Re: Coldfusion MX Platform related queries > > > Did I read somewhere that Macromedia do not recommend using the jrun server > in a production enviroment or is it just the developers edition > > Brian Knott > > -----Original Message----- > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Sent: Thursday, 27 March 2003 10:46 AM > To: CFAussie Mailing List > Subject: [cfaussie] Re: Coldfusion MX Platform related queries > > > On Thu, Mar 27, 2003 at 10:39:02AM +1000, Beattie, Barry wrote: > > > Wot, no-one bothers with the built in JRun-based webserver? > > There are people who are using it quite successfully I believe. > I was trying to point out that there are better alternatives to > IIS out there. > > [snip] > > > If you end up going with Windows, I'd strongly recommend ditching IIS. > > CFMX works very nicely with Apache 2.
