ACT SEVERE THUNDERSTORM ADVICE
TOP PRIORITY FOR IMMEDIATE BROADCAST
BUREAU OF METEOROLOGY
CANBERRA METEOROLOGICAL OFFICE
Issued at 1409 on Friday the 28th of March 2003
A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM ADVICE has been issued by the BUREAU OF METEOROLOGY
for this afternoon/evening for people in the Australian Capital Territory.

Scattered thunderstorms observed and moving across the ACT from the
southwest.
 
Heavy rainfall, possible large hail and damaging winds are possible.

The ACT EMERGENCY SERVICE advises that as storms approach people should:
  put vehicles under cover or cover them with blankets
  move indoors away from windows

During and after the storm people should:
  take extreme care when driving 
  beware of fallen trees and power lines 
  keep away from creeks and drains as you may be swept away
  shelter in the strongest part of a building [eg. bathroom or basement]

Do not use the telephone during the storm. If your house is damaged contact
the ACT Emergency Service on 6207-8455 for emergency assistance.
