However, the method that I suggested for doing it does work. Call your methods in your parent class "name_ClassName" - or something similar, then create your "name" stubs in the parent that call the real methods (and put some message in these that says they have to be overridden and does a CFABORT). You end up with the equivalant of a "virtual" class (or a non-instatiating class prototype). Then you can call the suffixed methods in derived class overrides. If you do this for all classes (make stub functions to call the real functions) then you can call all the way back into the most ancestral class.
As I also said, if you make the "real" functions have an ACCESS of PACKAGE then you have some level of restriction as to which classes can call the ancestral methods.
For those of you who do a fair bit of _javascript_, this method is not unfamiliar in creating classes.
