I personally regard XML vs DB with CFMX to be like comparing Playboy to
People Magazine.

XML = for the poor
DB = for the rich.

Storing data in an XML file for applications that only need to initialize
data once (ie a blog storing posts and such in application scope) to be a
really cool alternative to the usual SQL choice.

Great for small apps that don't need allot of DB power to manage data, and
get load majority into memory.
