Of course you don't want to write to a flash disk too much, and you'd want SQL server to be running on the local machine. Indeed, you could install the whole SQL server onto the disk. For that matter, I can recommend getting an external firewire/usb 2 drive. Then you can keep all your stuff on it with no worries. Use file synching at home to make sure its all up to date ( wouldn't want to loose your files out there somewhere ), and maybe encrypted, then you could kee your key on one of those little flash drives...
