I did download PostgreSql last night and I've got MySQL on a
CD ROM. I'll take the advice and just use Access only while I'm
learning

One that doesn't get any traffic, or that you don't mind if it's
off the air due to the server locking up.

I'm sure that someone will relate all the nice things that Access
can offer, and they haven't had a problem in X period, but having
seen the instability earlier versions can cause I'd recommend

not touching it.

Try and find a host that will back end onto a free database like
MySQL (if you must) or PostgreSQL if possible.
