There are no specific instrinsic functions to list distinct items in a list.
How is the list generated in the first place ? If it is from a database, then do a DISTINCT on the query in the first instance. If it is from a source without the ability to do DISTINCT then when you create the original list, create an additional object with the distinct items in it. Easiest to use a STRUCT as you can see if the key already exists easily. If you dont want to use a STRUCT, you will probably find converting the LISTs to ARRAYs will work better (and then back to a LIST). You can then sort the ARRAY which will make it easier to remove duplicates.
