Hi Mark,

I have found that functional specs always seem to change after they are
written (while development is in progress), simply because the client
that speaks to the analyst cannot fully grasp the full concept of what
he needs.
I believe if wire-framing comes after business requirements the client
will be able to see how things will work, what is missing and what might
become obsolete. It will simply become all clearer to the client now
that he has something to look at, instead of imagining all of it.

I myself favour wire-framing instead of functional design doco's, but
whether to drop the functional doco's or to do them after wire-framing
is still something I am debating on.

It would be nice to speak to someone who actually tried any of these
approaches and can give me some insight of the pro's and cons etc.

Main reason for these questions is because I just started a 3 week
contract with Suncorp last week, I had two deadlines to work with and no
doco's what so ever. After writing the business requirements I skipped
the functional design doco's due to the time constraint. I found that
this approach worked really well (almost perfect had I had more time to
do the wire framing and actually had everyone involved to sign it off
before commencing development ;-(

Hey Taco

I can't see the huge distinction between Functional Design and
Wire-framing. I would see Wire-framing as part of the functional design?

Anyway some good reading at:
