WITH A PRIZE!!

Check this list:

http://www.macromedia.com.au/ria

and these from our partners:

http://www.showtime.com.au (Generator Interactive)
http://bazaar.daemon.com.au (Daemon)
http://www.pizzahut.co.nz (ZeroOne)

and this demo for a flashcom app with source code:

http://203.222.140.54/show/show.html (Me)

There are also quite a lot in development by our partners that are still
under wraps.

A simple RIA can do a lot. The etrade and iokio examples are not more than
a page or two of code each. I've said this at various usergroups and
meetings recently: If you're going to upskill to Flash any time in the next
few years, now is the time to do it, while Flash skills and sites will still
stand out from the pack. A year from now I think RIAs will be far more
common, and you'll have less of a competitive advantage. Of all Australian
developers, cfaussies are the ones who shouldn't miss out on this.

The good news is that Australia and New Zealand are disproportionately well
represented in the RIA stakes worldwide - we've got a good developer
community here (even Ben Forta thinks so). The other good news is that CF
skills can be transferred to flash - our training partners offer advanced
actionscript and DRIA (Developing Rich Internet Applications, targetted
explicitly at CF developers learning Flash) courses, and there's the
cfaussie's sister list fugli for flash programming questions. I'm also
thinking of using Breeze Live to start a virtual Australia-wide fortnightly
meeting for Flash Developers (not designers) in MMUGs and CFUGs to help
spread the skills. If you have any other ideas on how we can help let me
know.

But for now, here's an offer you (everyone on cfaussie who hasn't built an
RIA yet, not just Mike) can't refuse: reply to this post with your mail
address, subject RIA ENTRY, I will send you free a book on building RIAs
with Flash and CF. In return, within a month's time you need to post me a
url to your prototype flash/cf app you've built. I will put names and links
up on a public list, cfaussie will take a vote on the best one and
Macromedia will pay the winner's registration fee for MXDU next year (that
is assuming it's on, but the last one was so bloody fantastic it's almost a
certainty...:-)

Good luck!

I'm preparing a proposal for an entertainment industry site, and the client
is excited about flash. Can anyone point me towards some real-life examples
of flash remoting in action? I tried to explain how it benefits a site and
I think all I did was confuse rather than excite.
