Shit i can just see this email being an ass kissing one, but its not meant that way :)
Working for TQ has its negatives and positives, the negatives are basically its one big dilbert comic strip where you have at times a few people not being proactive when it comes to innovation (Barry has coined the Term PPC - Progress Prevention Committee). Having said that, it goes with the turf of all enterprise level organisations i guess.
The positives for working with TQ for me, is the fact that I have allot of flexibility to work with. Barry gives you plent of rope to hang yourself with, it also helps having your boss being very PRO-MACROMEDIA ;) and well you can't also shit a shitter, so that helps.
example:
Years ago, if upper management walked into my cubicle and asked "hows xyz going" and if i was mucking around, i would go "I am restructuring the database, and upgrading security" (ie throw enough buzz words into the conversation and they would walk away thinking i was proactive, meanwhile alt-tab back to counter strike) (Told you its a dilbert comic).
Here.. You can try that shit, but you'll get bounced for sure.
Having prior to TQ, whoring myself around agencies around brisbane/sydney, pissing various amounts of people off (funny, people get offended when you actually ask for payment of work?? ) its pretty damn cool to be able to settle down in a place like this (especially with baby, wife, mortgage, car and dirtbike payments). The money isn't richy rich, but i live comfortable on it (and i get to do on-the-side work at times when times are low), and well the perks make up for it (super, travel oppurtunities, research & development resources and so on).
Its also got one extra perk, in that all the software on my laptop (yes we get laptops paid for here aswell) is actually paid for (nice!), not only that but i have access to all the Macromedia products (even breeze) as well as TQ being a partner with MM we get access to the betas (which is the main perk) and not only that but we get paid at times to research how we can best use the products and develop things ahead of time (Great for skillsets and TQ competition).
Barry's pretty cool to work for, luvs to shoot the shit with you and so forth, sometimes you have to remind yourself he's your boss :) (theres ya ass kissing part) at the same time, he can spot bullshit a mile and half away, so try that out and you'll feel the burn.
We are also very pro-gym developers now aswell, so i guess if you end up being part of the TQ family sooner or later you'll be peer-pressured into joining the gym :) - just try not to outrun Spike, the mans like a hamster on a wheel, just keeps churning away.
I'd rate this place as a keeper, i've had other offers to jump ship and work for xyz for extra $$ and so forth, but in truth you couldn't get a better working environment..... plus they have purty gurls here..... lots of em!!!! ... just remember we also have a HR Dept that frown on inappropriate touching.. trust me i know... (lol)
Anyway, back to work.. damn i have to make up the 10mins i took writing this email in my lunch break...... ;)

Just wondering if there are any people out there with work experience in the following places, and if so what company would they choose to work for?
- Department of Premier and Cabinet
- Queensland Tourism
- Suncorp
Just thinking, it's time to settle down a bit, but not sure where..!!
Any input is appreciated.
TIA,
Taco
