What happens if you insert the same packet into a text/memo field in another table?
You could always "roll your own" client variables - i.e. use a similar method to cold fusion and have a table that is indexed on CFID and CFTOKEN with a text/memo field. Be sure to use cfqueryparam to help avoid any database specific quirks.....

Hi All,
Just got a wierd error from an Access db that I'm using a client variable
store...
Operation failed on the data source named "myclientstore".
Reason of failure "[MERANT][SequeLink JDBC Driver][ODBC
Socket][Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver]Invalid precision value "
It only happens when I try to save a serialized wddx packet in a client
variable. Not a problem for simple values. The client var tables were
created from the CF Admin. Using MDAC2.8
Any ideas? (Other than using a better db ;)
