I think the idea behind Vaughen suggestions is to address the issue of
sections of different UUIDs being identical. You may have unique two 35
character UUIDs in which the first 8 characters are identical (fairly
common).

I think Vaughan is suggesting that by hashing these two UUIDs then grabbing
the first 8 characters you have a better chance of getting a unique value.

The way I understand it is that UUIDs are not random but they should always
be unique. If CF is generating identical UUIDs its doing something wrong.
