Is there any reason you couldn't have a default value for the ID attribute of the form tag.
That way you could keep the generic system and hopefully fix the problem you are having

In wizards that aren't step-aware it uses forms[0], otherwise you pass it attributes.formName and it uses that. BTW - does getElementByID work in nutscrape / mozilla etc as well as IE?
