Way back when I was a teenager running Windows 3.1 my parents called a guy out to 
upgrade our PC to Windows 95 (they didn't trust me to do it coz I'd killed a few PC's 
previously 'learning').  The first thing he did was defrag the HD, claiming it was 
'essential' to it before formatting for install.  3 hours and $200 later its done...  
a few years later I realised that he had totally shafted us for $200!
