How I usually treat this one is something like <cfset list2 = "1,2,3,4,,6"> <cfset list2 = replace(list2,",,",",N,","ALL")>
giving "1,2,3,4,N,6" and should be 6 elements again. If you want a list to have an "empty" element in it, you need to come up with some unusual sequence of characters (e.g. __null__) to mean the element is empty and code appropriately for it.
