I have a CF5 server running Win2000 server that runs with advanced security and Spectra. All was working well, until recently.
A user tried to install some software onto this computer that required an early copy of a Java engine to be installed, using something called the 'Java Web Start' to install it. Since then the computer runs incredibly slowly and has a task in the task manager called 'NT Java Console.e' that uses 99% or higher CPU. This task starts up while the machine is booting up, never goes away, and cannot be stopped. This task is associated with CF5 though. The only way I have found to stop this task and return this computer to having its normal level of idle CPU cycles is to go into Services and stop the Cold Fusion Management service, which automatically stops another similarly named service. You must also stop (and then restart) the ColdFusion Charting service. While these 2 CF management services are off and once the charting one has been restarted, the 'NT Java Console.e' service goes away completely. This sounds like a solution, except that although straight CF pages on this server still work, any Spectra apps that require authentication (including the Spectra Webtop) no longer work, so it has obviously effected the advanced security somehow. Has anyone come across this before or has any idea how to get this all going again? I'm hoping it should require just a jre reinstall, but I'm not sure which one is the right one. Upgrading from CF5 is not an option and reinstalling is something I'd rather not have to do.
