thanks for the response. We got it working in the end. Turns out to be a DNS issue with the server here. However I didn't know that the parameterexists() is defuncted now. Thanks for the heads up.
I believe parameterexists() was retired in v4 of CF. But there is so much sample code about with it in that it keeps getting propagated each generation. It was listed as one of the 20 most populous functions in the review of code done by the Macromedia QA team for v6.1 :)
