You do need to make it easy for the user, what I am saying is, I can make it easier for the user by breaking the address down, and use type ahead for all dropdowns, i.e. if you need to select a street and you type "st" Street would have already been selected.
 
Can you give me a bit more detail as to why you think it should be done with free-text?
 
PS. this is a corporate contact database, no cutting and pasting will done, most of the data entry will done while on the phone.
 
PPS can you show me a link with those studies that you refer to?

I believe usability studies have shown that the user reads top ==> left ==> right ==> bottom.  Users i would say are educated that navigation is either at the top or the left, not the right.

Guys,
 
I need to make my case tomorrow about some issues I believe should be solved.
 
I believe I got most of the points across however I have not been able to make a solid case for the Street Type to be a dropdown, any input would be appreciated.
It can be input from either side pro or con.
Their case is, it makes data entry to complicated and the users will be annoyed and enter the data anywhere.
 
My case (see url) is pretty clear I hope.....
