The SQL standard states that columns in a table do not have an order. [For performance/simplicity reasons I assume] So the order of the columns returned doesn't have to be the order in which they were selected and in theory they could be returned in a different order every time you do a query.
Know that doesn't help but at least it give a reason for the different behaviour between different drivers/software.
