For example - where does Javascript validation fit in? Is this just considered part of the 'view' and added to form pages?

Yes, just part of the view.

Also, how does Mach-ii extend to Flash based interfaces?

That's a tricky question. As you say, Flash communicates well with CFCs and the typical large RIA implementation would split the Controller functionality between the client and the server so you'd typically see a service-CFC used on the server as a thin facade for all the CFCs in the Model portion. The View and UI-Controller logic would be in Flash. Mach II is itself the Controller for CF applications and doesn't really lend itself to use from Flash.

I've created a simple FlashRemoting.cfc that can expose the event handling in Mach II as a single API but I don't find it very satisfying to use. Mach II exposes a URL-based API, not a CFC-based API (so implementing Web Services with Mach II is another tricky area).

Ben / Hal say they're interested in providing a workable solution in a future version of Mach II but I'm reserving judgment.

Are MVC design patterns adopted within complex Flash interfaces

Yes, the macromedia.com applications have a lot of design pattern usage in Flash and MVC is one of those used.
