That wouldn't do any good.

Let me elaborate:

File/private/ (only files for members, i.e. private)
File/public/ (only files that are publicly available, i.e. anyone visiting
the website)
File/list/ (only files that *are* to be indexed by search engines)

In other words, some files under public I want indexed, and other I don't
want indexed. 
Since there will be around 50 or more files it is silly to create a entry
for each one of them in the robots file, so I denied indexing on all but
"list" and duplicate the file sI want indexed in there, i.e. not all files
from "public".
