Create a text file with the header information only then: - WINDOWS open a DOS session copy header_file.txt + large_file.txt destination.txt - *nix cat header_file.txt large_file.txt > destination.txt NOTE: Make *sure* you've got a backup of the large file. Getting these sorts of commands wrong is easy, and very painful.
