Sub-selects allow you to execute other SELECTS in one query that are the
result of executing another query (sort of looping over loops).
So you can say things like:
SELECT
ID,
(
SELECT
Sum(SomethingValue)
FROM
AnotherTable AS a
WHERE
a.ID = m.ID
) as SumOfSomethingValue
FROM
MainTable AS m
WHERE
AField = 'Some Value'
The above could SUM all the SomethingValue's in the child table for the
nominated ID of the current record in the outer SELECT (ie. give you the
SUM of child records for each of the parent records).
