Unfortunately I've never had to do it on a shared box, probably worth seeing
if they'll add it anyway? If all their sites are CF/mySQL then I believe it
can do no harm?
However if they don't want to play ball, then could you possibly ( and I
stress possibly, I've never tried this) use your request scope to control
it, it'd mean adding connectstring="#REQUEST.connectstring#" to each of your
CFQUERY's, and specifying
"REQUEST.connectstring=useUnicode=true&characterEncoding=ISO-8859-1" in your
applicatiion.cfm, but it 'might' just work?
