For a glossary like this you should consider using the definition list html tags

as for the linked definitions maybe you could use teh batfink wiki.

I havent looked at it yet, but it sounds great...

Have a good weekend.

Subject: [cfaussie] Best way to do a glossary

Hi all,

I have been lurking for a while and getting the benefit of your wisdom. This is my first post.

I need to put a glossary of reproductive terms on my website. The simple way would be to make a table, put the term in one field and the definition in another, search and display as needed.

However, I want to be able to make some words bold, some italic, and some hyperlinks to other terms. Here is a sample definition...

abdominal pregnancy
An ectopic pregnancy located in the peritoneal cavity, or abdomen, usually having undergone implantation in the fallopian tube as a tubal pregnancy, then continuing to grow after the tube eventually ruptures. Rare in countries with ready access to medical care, as considerable symptoms have to have been ignored (and survived) during the tubal rupture part of the process. The fetus can grow almost to full term, but delivery of a live baby (delivered by operation) has never been reported. Sometimes (fancifully) thought of as a way men might bear children!

The underlined words are hyperlinks that would open their own definitions.

There are probably close to 1000 definitions in all.

What is the best way to go about this? I thought that I could store the definitions in the database as html code. I also wondered whether this would be something you could do in XML (although I haven't done anything with XML before). All suggestions very welcome, but please remember I an a newbie and need clear instructions.

TIA
