Hi All,

Im about to start a new project for a big client in the health/research
industries and am considering an interesting issue with the site/content
design. The site will have two public areas that need to be updatable via a
CMS in the back end. Its not neccessary to make every SINGLE page
updateable, some of the data/content will be normal slabs of text in the DB,
other data will be record sets i.e news items, resources etc and other
content will be in PDF and HTML formats.

Due to the mixed nature of the content i need to be able to make this
searchable.. I'm still in the analysis design phase of the project so im
pretty flexible.. The idea im toying with is to have a seperate metadata
table containing the text (keyword and description) to describe the
resources, this i'd index with MS SQL's free text search engine. The last
time i used verity it couldnt index DB content (i think), with DB content i
somehow need to know which page to link to from the search results, or
launch in a new window when a PDF etc etc.

Pros:
Metadata easily updatable.
Can be used to search across multiple content types

Cons:
Needs to be maintained and created..
Could be out of date if the user doesnt maintain it when a new rec is added
or modified etc

Has anyone else found themselves in a similar situation? I'd love to hear
your thoughts.

TIA

Jason
