Just my 2c:
I find that beyond basic SELECT statements, each implementation of SQL
across various different vendors' platforms (eg: MS, Oracle) differ a
GREAT deal anyway, so there's no such thing(*) as a "flick of a switch"
transition between DB platforms.

I'd hate to think that people were limiting themselves to the lowest
common denominator of SQL statement "just in case" there's a platform
change down the track. I can recall *one* project we've done in which
we needed to change DB platform.

(*) Well... If you write an abstracted DB handling layer there is, but
this is probably overkill for one-off projects.
