I agree with the "doesn't 'feel' right" statement to a certain extent. My
main bugbear at the minute is that you can't interact directly with the
filesystem without first creating a project. That was one of my main
complaints with Dreamweaver MX when it first came out and it has been raised
a number of times on the Eclipse development list.

I've had some issues with plugins too, but there are 2 things that still
make Eclipse my primary choice of editor.

1. There are a huge number of plugins for all sorts of development related
tasks - Time tracking, news aggregation, java and ColdFusion development,
CVS integration etc. That allows me to have everything (or pretty close to
everything) I need in a single application.

2. If I find a problem with a plugin I can usually get into the source code
and fix it myself if it's a real pain in the ass. That was my main
motivation for getting involved with the cfeclipse project.

I know that Macromedia has to consider the requests of 1000s of people
before deciding which feature to add, so I don't expect their IDE to work
exactly the way I want it to. Having access to the source code and being
able to contribute directly to the development and direction of the IDE is a
good feeling. I have never felt 100% comfortable with Dreamweaver MX in the
same way that I don't feel 100% comfortable with Eclipse. The difference is
that with Eclipse I can immediately change the things that I don't like, or
add features I would like to see if the need is great enough.

Another motivating factor for me is that it's nice to be able to provide
something for the community that they don't have to pay for.

I'm very curious to see He3 in action. Both Matt and Guy are excellent
developers so they should be able to produce a very solid product.
