on the point Joel makes about backwards compatability (and esp using undocumented
features) - this just backs up what RobinH, SeanC, et al, have been saying for ages -
a published API is the bible BUT go beyond that (with access to CF's underlying
factory java classes, etc) and all bets are off.

A vendor (ie: MM), has the right to change their software. Where it gets hairy is when
it breaks the prev published API - but then, no one is forcing you to upgrade, yes?

and all those VB6 apps don't need dot.net to run and don't need to upgrade.

I mean, who on CFAussie are still developing against "old" versions of CF? I bet more
than just the couple I know of...

He nailed it.

Ever tried preaching "Christianity" to a "Muslim"?.. you can try it, but
expect some kind of Holey war as a backlash :)

Different Flavors, ASP/VB isn't all that bad, I've been playing with C#
for a few weeks now, and i must say, i respect it to a point. I still
love CFMX over ASPX though, but VB .NET vs FLASH MX ... unless I'm
making an app for the web .NET is easier :D and less painful.

But he nailed it all perfectly, and I'm one of those dickheads who
decided to learn / use WinForms... now if Longhorn makes it to market,
thats a big wast of my time in learning it.

I loved the part where DHTML was given a low priority due to the danger
of it overtaking the Operating System/Client-top model, in that if you
evolve a technology like DHTML more, you effectively are in danger of
dislodging the need for a specific OS (i.e Linux? Mac? etc).

Its all a conspiracy ;) hehehe.
