Are there any problems with using the REQUEST scope for this? We set this up ages ago, and I am sure I had a good reason at the time, but cant actually think of it now :/
Probably because pre-CFMX you didn't want to contend with memory corruption through inadequate locking of shared variables. No problems using request scope beyond having to set the variables for every page request.
