if it has timed out and gone back to a login what do you
know about the user?

The
only real solution would be to cookie, client variable would be out as well
because you would loose who you actually are as this is also based on the CFID
& CFToken. But if no user has logged in then I guess you will have to have a
default skin.
I
recall working on a skin system when I worked for a bank a few years ago,
although it never was implemented you could only base the skin and settings to a
user, and if the user is not logged in then you can't do this any way that I can
think of. CFID & CFToken might work but if it has expired then those
variables are gone...
