Yep Pretty much.
They are an absolute pain to debug. since you need
to restart servers n such each time your re-register
heres a tutorial on how to create a VB Dll for
ASP

sounds cool, I haven't touched VB in years and probably would need to do
a bit of brushing up to do that, but certainly not a bad
idea...
How
difficult do you reckon this is? What's involved?
Is
it as easy as opening a new project VB component, paste the code, save it,
register it and call it?

what about writing your VB App that returns XML
as a string from a VB Com component ?
do your ADO specific stuff where it should live
(in VB Code) and just call that from CF

Gives me
An exception occurred when executing a Com
method.
The cause of this exception was that:
AutomationException: 0x80020005 - Type mismatch. in 'Provider'.
Before anyone asks (they always do when you mention ADO) its to get
a stream from FOR XML in MS SQL (yup the topic I touched about 200 times
on this list and 300 times elsewhere.)......
