Only downside to Flash is:

1 - Size / metrics would need to be provided on the swf itself (only if UI 
real-estate in application is a problem).
2 - Images can still be extracted from a SWF (ie ASV 4.x etc)
3 - JPG have to have no Progression levels, otherwise thanks for coming.

So really, SWF is just as bad in many ways if security of an image is 
needed. 

I'm with the others, the moment an image is open to the public, consider 
it public domain (whether you watermark/copyright it all you want) as all 
it takes is a "screen" grab to undo watermark (unless its visual based).

But.. he had me convinced for a minute, i for some reason was thinking the 
image was stored in memory of the browser or some trickery in the actual 
file in temp folders..but it had to be stored somewhere, where was more 
the answer... but anyway.
