Hi Jason I'm not sure if this will actually work because I haven't tried it, I have a feeling it just might though.
You could display a HTML page with whatever message you like and include an invisible (tiny) IFRAME in that page which basically contains just the PDF. Now this might cause an issue if the browser attempts to open the PDF in the browser window itself, even then you could just incorporate a larger IFRAME if you want to cater for this instance.
