Yeah, the light-bulb effect does happen... plus its good to just talk shop 
with a room full of people and feel like your the dumbest.. (sometimes its 
good to fill like the junior..) - you learn...

If a boss is set in his/her mind that financially they can't afford to 
loose you for 3 days, then short of saying "Oh and while i'm there, i'll 
have access to 20+ developers who will cover for me" will only win them 
over. 

Technically speaking, MXDU is worthwhile, networking aside you do walk 
away with knowledge *unlike other conferences i've been to where you walk 
away going "that guy was a total ass, he knows sweet all"
