I agree with TOM and Geoff
and as for "And one of the symptoms of this toyishness is going to be when they see stuff like: <cfif i GTE j> instead of: if (i >= j) CF is just plain ugly, and the code looks toyish." The solution to this is simple, if you want it to be like PHP so much go and use PHP, most members here like cfml, thats why they are on this list. A tag based language was the best business idea ever for MM, they had like a trillion HTML coders visiting there site that had no idea of any other language except for html and the basics of CFML looked very similar to them and off they went, you must look as where CFML's main audience comes from, if you want to have maximum control start with machine code , then write your own OS your own languages, servers, app servers etc . hell why not get out some copper wire and a soldering iron and make your own hardware, at least this way you would have full access to everything and no1 to blame. If someone cant work out <cfset crap = "crud"> maybe thats because the coders first language isnt English. my point is, if anyone wants it to be so much like another language why not go use that other language. I see the point of people bringing up that they would like cfscript to be more like other scripts etc, but if your having so much confusion with cfscript stop dont use it, write it in cfml, cfml can do everything cfscript can, and if ya dont like cfml use JSP or 1 of the other lango's. If you have to use CFML cos your work uses it then leave, go work somewhere else. Hell why not turn html into a scripting language ??? There is only 3 things in life you must use, water, air and carbon its self, CFML you don't have to use, its a choice. A part from that discussion like this is good, if you think something can make it better then put it forward but at the same time think what makes it what it is, its all part of the innovation process.
