We would have looked at moving over to Version 7 and may still do for the
flash forms stuff, but the lack of certain things and bugs that have been
there right through the beta will stop me from looking at it for a long
time.

Issue #1:

PDF / Flashpaper reporting, when you browser a site that generates one of
these new reports via CF 7 if the url is www.mydomain.com.au/test/ then the
report will never generate and instead will generate the bytecode to the
screen of the browser, after all the talks I had with certain MM developers
on this they could never find the problem. Then I discovered that if I was
to type this into the url www.mydomain.com.au/test with the trailing forward
slash the report would actually work and continue to work from that point
on. The fact that this was report before the release of Blackstone I am
appauled that it was released with this bug still in it.

Issue #2:

We require our reports to (Crystal) be able to have boxes and lines that
span multiple sections details, footer, header etc so that we can create
pretty looking invoices, quotes, picking slips etc. This was never looked at
as a feature and when I added this request I was told it will be available
in sp5 does that mean Service Pack 5, if that is the case we will never
switch to this for that reason.

Issue #3:

We have setup a lot of intranet solutions that require Crystal to print
Invoices, quotes etc and have a very solid solution, for us to even look at
CF 7.0 we would be looking at removing the need to have to have a crystal
license to do our job, and the major thing that stops us from this with cf
7.0 is server side printing. When I posted this as a feature request I had
Ben Forta come back with the smart comment of security issues, no one was
interested in the fact that we use this feature heavily, and is available in
competing products namely the jasper report engine that blackstone licensed
to use for cf 7.0.

Anyway, we have no need for any of the other extra features at this stage,
but we may consider using the event gateways in the future, but I could
write the code to do the same thing in java for less of the cost to upgrade
to the enterprise version anyway. And unless the 3 issues that I have
described are fixed I doubt we will switch in a hurry.

Subject: [cfaussie] Why your jumping to CF 7

Hi All,

Just a question, well more of a 1 question survey, for those moving to CF 7

whats your reason ?
A new must have feature or your company just likes to use the latest.

why I'm at it.
why are you not moving to CF 7 ?
no need to spend cash ?
waiting for a few bugs to be found and fixed ?
other etc.

Kind Regards
M@
