ive found the technique:
<cfset var local = structNew() >
is an awsome way to make sure everything is var'ed and scoped within cfc functions at the same time. almost like creating your own psuedo-scope.
at first i thought it was a pain, as its make your code a little more typing to write out. but what you loose in typing you gain when reading it back 6 months later.

Man... this is where we ESPECIALLY make sure to scope them. Mostly to flag the fact it's not a function-local variable, and could be affected by other code.
