Damn those monkies! It does it for every connection commands. I.e. putFile.
I then tried another server i.e. not the monkey one and it did the same thing. But if I try to connect to one internally it works perfectly. Me thinks it has something to do with our network but I'm not sure. As when I put in the proxy I get the same error.
