<body onunload=("yourJSfunction()")>

you can't prevent the window from closing but any function call from
that event will run, so you can ask the user if they want to keep the
data and go from there. if you need more user input after the fact
then you'll have to pop something up as once they click that little
red button with the X on it, the page is gone.
