Speaking of logs on the fire, I know this is by now a bit of a dead horse (or is it a hot potato?), but in defense of Matt he was not telling Eric to drop from the list. Quite the contrary, he was responding to Eric's note which had said he was contemplating "dropping this list like a bag of rocks" in his frustration over Matt's notes. Matt was merely suggesting that the cost of that (in missing out on the value of the list) may be higher than the cost of putting up with any offense he may feel.
It's easy to see how some become engaged to the point of reading into a note what they will. And it's certainly understandable that folks do get enraged. But as Rodney King, "Can't we all just get along?" :-) Watching Matt join a list is like watching lightening strike a forest. You just know a fire is bound to form and rage, leaving "shock and awe" in its wake, if I may borrow that term. But in the big picture, like such a fire, there is value for the forest. It hurts in the moment, but there's a clearing of undergrowth (unchallenged ideas) and a chance for renewal (debate). It's all a very natural cycle, really. But that's the benefit of standing back and watching it happen over and over. It's clearly no fun to the critters that are displaced or feel put out. And it doesn't matter to them that the fire is indiscriminant and really unaware of its impact. The fire is fire. It's part of nature. You just learn how to avoid being burned. :-) /charlie > -----Original Message----- > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Behalf Of Brendan O'Hara > Sent: Monday, March 24, 2003 8:59 PM > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Subject: RE: [CFCDev] MVCF at benorama.com > > > > Wow. > > > I would suggest you reconsider dropping this list.
