I wanted to solicit input from the list on what tools you have used in the past to load test applications. We touched on this a few weeks ago, I am working on putting together a list and testing a few of the new ones suggested.

Here are the ones I have used:

Free:
Microsoft Web Application Stress Tool
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=e2c0585a-062a-439e-a67d-75a89aa36495&displaylang=en
OpenSTA
http://www.opensta.org/

Commercial:
Segue SilkPeformer
http://www.segue.com/html/s_solutions/s_performer/s_performer.htm
Mercury LoadRunner and LoadTest
http://www-heva.mercuryinteractive.com/products/

If there is anything you can add to this I would appreciate it.

Several people have raved out the Empirix e-Test suite (http://www.empirix.com/Empirix/Web+Test+Monitoring/Web+Test+Monitor+Overview.html) and I saw an interesting presentation at a CFUG from Donald Doane at OpenDemand (http://www.opendemand.com/). Donald is even offering a deal to the CF-community at http://www.opendemand.com/cf for free access for up to 100 virtual users or something like that. They have both a hosted and a packaged solution.

Hope this helps,
Dave.
