Agreed, however in this case I'm only doing read/writes not uploads. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of Gary Menzel Sent: Wednesday, July 16, 2003 6:38 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: [CFCDev] Stand-Alone CFCs?

Hi Bryan, I have read through a lot of the responses (and the discussion on how to handle errors from CFC's is a fundamental we should always return to) but I am wondering if part of your original post got "lost" in the chatter..... Using CFFILE in a CFC -=DOES=- break the "should not reference shared scope" rule - but no-one seemed to mention that. Unfortunately, without doing that it is very difficult to encapsulate file uploads. So it is looking at the worse of two evils (distributing your logic through all the places you need it so you dont reference shared objects, or breaking the shared object rule in order to place your upload logic in a central place). Having said that, the shared scope issues in this case are very well defined (access to FORM is required to get the content of the file being uploaded) and it is more the CFFILE tag that is breaking the rule rather than your own code.
