I was born and weaned on ColdFusion, so I'm not that aware of constructors.
What functionality does a constructor provide that the Camden
scope/constructor area doesn't? I've always thought of the constructor area
as being another simplification by MM...?

Well, it's not so much *what* it is, so much as *how* it's implemented. I would expect the *functionality* to be the same regardless of whether it's in the Camden scope or in a method with the same name as the CFC.

To me, your last question sums up why I think it's dangerous to call it the "constructor area." I personally don't believe that MM *intended* to use that area as the constructor area, rather it was a handy side-benefit of *how* they implemented CFCs, and a benefit that has permeated into the community as a "best practice."

Sorry, I'm asterisk-happy today. ;)

Regards,
Dave.
