Joe pointed out that his CFMX Pro machine is 6.0 (where I know the class loader behavior) but his J2EE machine is 6.1 and it's possible the CF team changed the class loader behavior (since they no longer load classes from disk). That might be the difference. I don't have a 6.0 install locally any more so I'm going to have to recreate a test environment and see if the class loader behavior has changed been 6.0 and 6.1 (it's a good thing if it has changed!).
