Sorry - it's late and I'm way too tired.  ;^)

However it sounds to me like the first system is easily converted to the
second ("Dec 10th 2004 - 15th has 200 rooms" is also "Dec 10 has 200 rooms,
Dec 11 has 200 rooms, etc).

Doing that you've eliminated the problem of having dual systems when
determining placement making it a non-issue.

Of course I could be missing something big.
