My biggest challenge is that I can hard code MACHII_CONFIG_PATH to the true path and it still doesn't change where the MachII framework is going to look for the mach-ii.xml file.
You should be able to set it in the (equivalent of) index.cfm *before* you <cfinclude> mach-ii.cfm - make sure the (one, central copy of) mach-ii.cfm is up-to-date (it should have <cfparam> tags to set MACHII_CONFIG_PATH not <cfset> tags.
